Smoke and Mirrors: Short Fictions and Illusions
by Neil Gaiman
So I initially picked this up because it was one of the few books on the first page of the graphic novels with 25,000 ratings. And I quickly discovered that this was a prose short story collection with no graphic novel pieces. So I removed the book from the list and started it anyway. And put it down. And picked it up. And put it down. And restarted it. I've been reading this slowly and for a long time.
Actually there are some really good stories in here. As well as a few that were nearly unreadable. And some that I just didn't appreciate. Basically a mixed bag. But worth reading. But nothing that I would desperately want to re-read. The Chthulhu stories were surprisingly good. The Angel story was also surprisingly good. Heck even the old Hollywood story was surprisingly good. Perhaps I just like being surprised.
