I appreciate the author's willingness to just... go for it in terms of making this a truly dark romance. I also appreciate that there is enough of a plot to keep me interested and her FMC isn't a virgin teenager who immediately falls in love with the first person who shows her interest. She's in her mid to late 20's, has a career and has had previous sexual experience. That being said... the writing could use some major work. It isn't as bad as some romance novels I've started and given up but the author has some truly cringeworthy lines in there. She also works very hard to make her characters edgy in a way that is not believable and borders on trying too hard. Overall, I enjoyed it enough to finish it and to (cautiously) begin the second book but my reading this book definitely elicited a lot of groans along the way.
Graphic: Rape
