Him by Clare Empson
dark
sad
2.0
All in all, this book feels like "being tragic for the sake of being tragic" but not in a classy "Mice and Men" or Dostojewski style. It reminds me somewhat of some of the Nicholas Sparks novels I've read. It's just a bit too plain to be meaningful and too sad to be entertaining.
I did not like any of the characters because none of them felt complex or developed to me. Especially the two main characters are very stereotypical.
Spoiler:
There is a sexual assault plot in this, which makes this incredibly heavy, especially because you can see it coming after a few chapters but the big "reveal" does not happen until the end.
There is also a very dramatic side character death, which seems to have no purpose at all, apart from making this more tragic.
There is also a lot of trauma.
So don't read this if you are looking for a nice, light-hearted romance plot.
