Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi
3.0
Judging on the writing alone, this is absolutely beautiful. Yaa Gyasi has a talent, her main character is so well fleshed out, thought out, vulnerable, human, and it is beautifully transcripted.
But the theme of faith (in a Christian god) is just not my thing. I'm still weirdly put out by religion, and I kinda related to the character of Anne, even though she's more judgy and juvenile than I in her distaste.
I think the strength of the book lies within the last tier, those last 100pages or so. They are about redemption, acceptance, while still maintaining curiosity and more important than anything else : hope. They were brilliant.
