A generally sweet and tender story about family, healing generational trauma, and finding your own path. The witchy undertones would have been a plus.

It kind of feels like this book wanted to be a lot of things and never focused on one thing, so it never did anything perfectly. The crime mystery made the love story frustrating (girly... someone broke into your house... HOW are you in the mood to get freaky rn???), the family made the crime frustrating (so you never wanted to come back... but you just NEED to solve this mystery??? I hate regret as a motivator it's so cheesy and not as strong as authors want it to be), and everything else crowded around the fantasy (btw, could you even call this fantasy? It's barely magical realism honestly...).

But overall, it was sweet and an easy read. A little predictable, but satisfying.

Also, jumpscare for the
heavily implied pedophilia and incest.
