The Pastures of Heaven by John Steinbeck

Historically I have not been a fan of Steinbeck. Pastures of Heaven floored me. It's deep and lovely and haunting and profound in its simplicity. The format of all the stories really worked for me. This book really leaves an impression and I think this vastly out performs East of Eden in its prose. It's lovely deep and unlike anything else I've read. This might be the best book I've read this year.
