sinistrocanto 's review for:
A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting
by Sophie Irwin
This is an attention-grabbing title and the cover is gorgeous. Between that, the title, and the fun premise of a historical romance where the lady is the one doing the fortune hunting, my expectations were through the roof.
Ultimately I had fun with this book and is the perfect summer read to pass time on the beach, but I wasn't blown away. The beginning is fun and was enough to guarantee I'd stick with the characters, but some of the plot developments are a bit too contrived, and adding that to the too-modern dialogues my attention started to lag. I'm glad it picked back up in the last third of the story and really enjoyed the ending, and overall it was a very fun way to spend one afternoon. Cute, comfortably predictable, ultimately harmless. OK for spending time at the beach, not the kind of romance that'll melt you inside. Cecily was very cute though and she needs to get her own book.
