This book was heartbreaking. Reading Elizabeth’s final chapter was the worst part for me. This was a very well executed book, there’s nothing I can really say negative about the actual writing, plot, or the way the characters were written. I loved Elizabeth and Young. I hated Matt, Jeanine, and at times Pak, and normally I don’t give 3 stars when I feel so strongly about the main characters in a book. I have to take off the two stars though because this book was emotionally draining and not in a cathartic way. It’s entirely possible that I read this at the wrong time and I’ll love it if I revisit it. I am trying to get out of a slump and that may be why I didn’t like it as much as I feel like I should. It may also be that I needed something more uplifting during these times and this book let me down in that regard. I would recommend this to anyone, however, and I’ll definitely revisit it later and see if my opinion changes.
