The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

4.0

Enjoyed this very much! I especially enjoyed the way the chapters were built up; the hypothesis at the beginning of each chapter, giving a little “summary” of the chapter in a way, really kept me engaged and worked almost as a cliffhanger of sorts with me, prompting me to wanna read on as I (so desperately) wanted to know what was going to happen / what the “result” of the hypothesis was going to be. This might also be the reason why I finished this in a matter of under 48 hours:)

Although I really enjoyed the structure of the book (and the writing in itself), I was not necessarily the biggest fan of the story. It could be because I am (most DEFINITELY!!) not a science person and I must admit the “sciency” parts were kinda tedious to get through sometimes. Also, Adam’s overprotectiveness and the way Adam and Olive’s relationship balance played out frustrated me, seeing as I very much dislike the whole “a woman needing a man to protect and fight her battles for her” notion/trope/plot-line.

Other than that though, I was intrigued by the fake-dating plot/concept and I think it was well executed in this book. Putting away the details and looking at the storyline as a whole, I really (!!) enjoyed the whole process of the fake-dating plot and how the development of the characters and their relationship unfolded - I think it was done in a, although painfully slow sometimes, realistic and good way.

A good book that I, despite only rating four stars, definitely would recommend!! Don’t mind my personal, subjective thoughts on some of the details, the story as a whole and how it was structured very much deserved a higher rating :)
