Nell of Gumbling: My Extremely Normal Fairy-Tale Life
by Emma Steinkellner
+12 Not much content - some really good storylines; dealing with friendships, things out of our control, and learning responsibility. LGBTQ+ Rep.
I really liked Nell as a character, even if she was a bit whiny, I felt she was mostly validated in her responses. Myra was a bit much from in some of her choices and it felt like Nell had to give a lot to others for not a lot in return. Overall, the morals were okay, though the story felt a little long in getting there.
Personally, I would have preferred a more traditional style graphic novel format. Of course, the illustrations are adorable and left nothing to be desired. The world of Gumbling and its inhabitants was cute, weird, and whimsical.
Not sure that I'm going to continue reading Steinkellner's books, but I will always gush over her artwork.
