Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron

5.0

Holy wow! I wish this book had existed when I was a teenager! I felt so seen and the story line felt so REAL while obviously being a fairy tale. There are so many takes on the Cinderella story, but this was one of the best done- it was new blood in a timeless tale.

I loved the characters- good and bad. It combines family, the ones given to us, and the ones we choose. It questions friendships and loyalty and individuality. I literally didn’t want the story to end because I was enthralled from cover to cover.

So many fairy tales focus on the girl getting the guy and happily ever after. In this story, the main character Sophia, is a queer icon who is bent on disrupting the status quo in the land. Prince Charming who? Things aren’t always what they seem in the fictional land of Mersailles- and Sophia is determined to build a life for her, and all other young girls in the kingdom by any means necessary.

I highly, highly recommend!
