adventurous emotional funny hopeful inspiring lighthearted mysterious fast-paced

We are absolutely spoiled to have this second half of the duology released so soon after The Floating World. I can’t get enough of Ren, Sunho, Jaeil, Wook, Tag, and Yurhee. There is so much joy, innocence, hope, sarcasm, friendship, and romantic tension jumbled between them - it makes the epic and deadly journey they’re on delightful to witness. I was smiling a lot.

(I did also cry a little about Ren’s mom. There’s a “she’s just a girl” moment there that got me feeling sentimental.)

Overall I was happy with the way the story unfolded. Mysteries are solved. Romances bloom. Friends and family show up for each other. Battles are fought, both physically and spiritually. And there are some really spooky scenes to balance out the other-worldly ethereal vibes of Ren flying through the air in all her glowing-white-beauty.

I’m obsessed with the balance between Ren and Sunho, both in appearance and personality. The idea that acceptance and love can lead someone to see their biggest fears or weakness as a strength is so lovely. They have that “it’s always you” quality to them that nurtures trust. It’s very healing to read.

Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC. It’s a five star book and I will be purchasing the hardcover for the shelves as soon as it’s available!
