Book Rating 6/10:

This book has been hyped by every book person I have met. From reviewers to the bloke who served me in Waterstones. Does it live up to the hype? The short answer is no it doesn't. It's a ok first novel. I didn't hate it. But there's a lot of room for improvement in her craft. The fact the author was a flight attendant really adds to the authenticity of the novel which I always appreciate in the books I read. The novel felt like a stereotypical ‘80s action movie where you would expect Bruce Willis or Harrison Ford to play the main protagonist. I'm not saying that's a bad thing it's just one this book reminded me of.

The novel itself had a lot of issues the “bad guys” are middle eastern men (wow that's original and not an overused trope at all) and often at times, it gets a little preachy for my liking. At times I found the writing to be a little amateurish and clunky in places and I'm not trying to be mean but I can understand why so many turned this book down.

Overall it's the book equivalent of a popcorn flick. You will watch it (or in this case read it) maybe you will have fun watching it (again in this case reading it) and you will forget about it shortly after you finished it. I get that I might have overused the popcorn movie metaphor here.
