Persuasion
by Jane Austen
[Read for a Jane Austen Class]
When her old love comes back into Anne Elliot’s life, she must deal with her conflicted feelings and her family’s opinions while finding her way back to the love she thought she lost.
When I first started reading Persuasion, I was convinced that I wasn’t going to like it. However, Anne Elliot is such a wonderful character and a pleasantly different heroine than Elizebeth Bennet or Emma Woodhouse. She’s older, wiser, and weighed down by her emotions in a way that make her so relatable. I adored Anne’s character. The love story, while maybe not necessarily as engaging or interesting as P&P, relies on a lot of tropes that I like so I still found it enjoyable to read.
The pacing is a bit slower, perhaps because Anne is very different from other Jane Austen heroines, and while it’s definitely not the worst it’s also not the best either.
Overall, it’s a good and sweet story and I recommend it.
