The story was interesting but felt very slow. I couldn't connect with the characters and wasn't really invested.

I love the idea of a fantasy that centers Japanese mythology but I'm not familiar enough with the culture or Shinto beliefs to know how authentic any of this is. The author appears to be white which makes this feel a bit icky.
