alfredreads 's review for:
The Ten Thousand Doors of January
by Alix E. Harrow
A very airy and whimsical book that was really close to amazing. I feel like it went a little too heavily into what felt like YA adventure territory.
What it did best and should have done more of was be a fairy tale. Or even as a piece of modern storytelling/mythology without quite as much of coming of age and social commentary.
Nothing against either of those things per se but it felt a bit half-baked in those areas and they dragged the rest down a notch or two.
