Beautiful Star by Yukio Mishima

dark emotional reflective medium-paced

4.0

A wonderfully reflective story, Beautiful Star discusses the state of human existence and its potential to either flourish or perish in the face of nuclear threat. The many extraterrestrial voices we follow contend with the seeming inevitability of human self-destruction and the viability of lasting peace is brought into question.

A thoughtful piece throughout, although at times slow-reading, the many stories we follow converge, leading to a tense debate between contrasting perspectives.

I think this book will be more enjoyable on a second read.
