Most professional reviewers classify this as Grades 9-12, while one of them (SLJ, maybe?) put it as low as 8th grade. I'd go even lower; I'd say this is perfectly acceptable for 7th graders who like suspenseful, shallow crime dramas.

It was okay, and thankfully was a pretty quick read. I don't know if it's because I didn't read book one or if this is Henry's style (lack of much character development), but I didn't care about or like a single character. My experience reading this book was similar to watching an episode of CSI, I imagine (I've never watched it), or Murder, She Wrote (which I have).

If everything was portrayed accurately, (and I have no idea if it is or not), kids will learn to avoid interrogation without a lawyer (even if they're innocent), and they'll learn about police interrogation tactics, what it's like being in a Search and Rescue team, and some facts about forensics and crime scene investigations.

I suspect that my MS kids will enjoy this Battle of the Books 2020 title.
