Paradais by Fernanda Melchor
3.0

It’s not surprising that I finished this book in less than 24 hours, nor that I finished it before 9 AM, because it’s the kind of book intended to make its readers rapacious. It’s 120 pages with nonstop text — periods are rare, and new paragraphs far rarer. This ties neatly into the book and its themes — two teenagers, one driven mad with sexual desire for his neighbor and the other spiraling over his life and future — making the reader feel the urgency more acutely. This was translated from Spanish, and without having read the original version, it seems like it was translated well. Lots of TW for domestic abuse, sexual assault and abuse, incest, etc.

I’d recommend this to fans of realistic horror.
