The Living Dead by George A. Romero, Daniel Kraus

5.0

This is one of my new top 5 favorite books. It's a zombie epic that gives George A. Romero the last word on his undead saga of films, and also a Romero super-fan/great writer the opportunity to live out the dream of working alongside his idol. "The Living Dead" delivers on all expectations I had, and threw me for some serious loops through its conclusion. It's a hefty brick of a book, but damn does it make every page count in building and tearing apart the world it presents. There's a sense of things coming full circle as Romero and Daniel Kraus pay homage to several other zombie-related media that were obviously influenced by Romero himself; some have found this distracting but it felt appropriate and well balanced with the rest of the novel to me. I could go on and on but overall I really loved this book and I highly recommend checking it out.
