Earthbound by Aprilynne Pike
3.0
If you liked Pike's 'Wings' series (which I did) you will love this too. At times I had to berate myself for reading something so incredibly saccharine and formulaic but if you can agree to compromise any semblance of being a grown up whilst reading it then you're on to a winner.
Tavia is an 18 year old who has been through immense personal tragedy. Cue magical powers, heart-aching love triangle and journey of self discovery. Throw in plenty of boy crushing and lots of i-don't-know-who-to-trust and you've got yourself several hours of pure, unadulterated enjoyment.
Pike does bittersweet and personal denial very well. She is clearly a woman at peace with exposing her inner teenager and for that I respect her.
Read it but it will probably leave you wanting something a little more mentally stimulating. In the mean time, I'm off to read the second one!
