This is exactly the kind of book written for me by Silvia Moreno Garcia! I adore her writing, so ok now I’m a tad biased, but when you add in magic and vinyl records? I’m sold. I can see what some say about Meche, but for me I don’t have to love the main character to enjoy a book. Her development was rough at times, but it was exactly her personality throughout the book. I found her most endearing when reflecting on the difficulties of life an family, and the magic of records. My heart broke a little with grandma, and while I didn’t love either mom or dad, the characters were written in a way that you could see how they become and lived as they did. < /spoiler> I highly recommend the playlist along with this book too!
Minor: Sexual harassment
One scene involving an inappropriate teacher advance on a main character. She was able to escape before harm beyond a physical touch, but keep this as a trigger warning.
