Annie Bot follows a human passing AI trying to develop her relationship with her owner, Doug, while also trying to carve her own identity. This book does a great job of describing the struggle of what it means to be 'human' and I thought the way Greer evolved Annie's humanity throughout the book was well articulated. That said, it is ~messy~ (which is arguably very human) and I struggled a lot with Annie's robot thoughts. This is not really a spoiler since I thought this was more of an issue in the first handful of chapters, but she's in a near constant thought spiral about how she can best please Doug. It was honestly very anxiety inducing which speaks to the great writing, but was a little hard to get through. This becomes less severe as the book goes on and the later relationships Annie develops were so fun to read about. Overall 3/5 stars. The writing was excellent and the themes were there, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea.
