Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry
4.0

Words and illustrations pair together, play together in this wonderful tangle. By no means a perfect book (there's no music in the language, resulting in certain clunky passages), the best thing about this book is its focus -- a small, young, black girl who insists on the perfect hairdo. And all her daddy wants to do is help. A lovely addition to any collection, would pair particularly well with Derrick Barnes' "Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut".
