Perfect Little World
by Kevin Wilson
The concept of this book was interesting, but I was honestly bored by the end of it. There were many questions about the idea of family that I liked thinking about. The idea that the project was getting funding from a huge corporation that didn’t even give health insurance to its employees struck me as a realistic criticism of a capitalistic society. Ultimately, I was disappointed in the ending of the book as it was very dramatic and too “perfect”. Izzy and Preston made no sense to me as a couple, and it felt very forced. Izzy was such a strong and independent character who always wanted to find her own way and do what was best for her son. The end of the book gave me “I need a man because I can’t do it myself” vibes, which was very uncharacteristic for Izzy. That said, I did finish the book fairly quickly as the writing was intriguing. I hoped that the ending would make some kind of poignant commentary about parenting, poverty, family, etc., but was disappointed with the forced happy ending.
