The Narrow Road Between Desires by Patrick Rothfuss

3.0

I read The Name of the Wind quite a few years ago now, and it took me a few pages to get back into this story. Bast is without a doubt one of my favourite characters from the original books, and it was a real pleasure to learn a little more about him. I hadn’t read the short story The Lightning Tree, so I can’t say if it’s a good extension of it or not, but the whimsical vibes were perfect.

That said, this book really suffers from lack of plot. It reminded me a lot of old children’s classics where we follow the adventures of the main characters without any purpose. This type of story gets really boring really fast, and The Narrow Road Between Desires is no exception to the rule despite being short. Nate Taylor’s illustrations were a nice addition to the story and added greatly to the atmosphere.

Thank you so much to the publisher for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
