A Peace to End All Peace: The Fall of the Ottoman Empire and The Creation of the Modern Middle East by David Fromkin
4.0
I don't understand history, or geography, well enough to truly appreciate Fromkin's research and conclusions, but I'm glad that I stuck with it. Novices, like me, will need either an atlas, the Wikipedia, or both. More than anything, I have a deeper appreciation of Winston Churchill, an even deeper disdain for bureaucracy, and a renewed need to visit Turkey and the Middle East someday. A great book, but a tough read.
