Sula by Toni Morrison
4.0

A hard-hitting and complex story about friendship which will make you question everything you believe in - We fail to understand individuals who do not conform to society and often are threatened by them. We unify in discarding those who do not belong. Sula is one such tale about a character who does not believe in the norms or shackles of society and is truly free in her spirit. But what happens when her characteristics threaten the community she has to live in? This book made me think.. think hard about what is right and what is wrong. There are many points of view and each voice is strong - making you feel for every character. Did you also go into the book thinking it would be an innocent, simple tale of friendship but to find it was so much more precious?
