I wish I had known going in that this is not linked to any canon I have ever read/watched. That said it was an interesting retelling of Bucky’s origin story and a glimpse into his time as The Winter Soldier through two different time settings. There’s a lot of action in this but it didn’t feel out of place for what kind of book it is.
I liked the original characters and storylines as something completely different to other Bucky/Winter Soldier stories. I did miss Steve but he wasn’t central to this version of Bucky’s story.
Of course with this being partly a Winter Solider story it got dark and super sad.
I liked this in the way that it used a character I know and made a whole new story. But it was hard to let go of canon I know from both comic and screen at times.
