This was my first Isabel Allende novel, and I found it to be a beautifully rich story about a complicated woman’s life set against the backdrop of major political events and upheavals that feel very relevant to us today. The beginning and middle portions of the novel are the strongest. I would rate it higher, but the novel begins to drag at the end.
