A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

"you have been the last dream of my soul."

This book was given to me by my dear father years ago with a $50 check at the back. I had the good sense to pick it up (several times, I might add) only to accomplish less than the first chapter.

This time around, I have been blessed with the perseverance to surpass that cursed first chapter, and I must say that there is no regret at all.

I must emphasize how spectacularly amazing this book is and forever will be. Sydney Carton is my love and my soul, and my heart aches for him. I cried in half the scenes he was in, and I nearly cried during the remainder of them. Both his character's depth and inner depression were heart-shattering, and I could not help but cherish this character who needed and wanted so much love but received so little.

This book is the inspiration and the story behind quite possibly my favorite trilogy in existence, The Infernal Devices, but the original A Tale of Two Cities will forever have a glowing space in my heart. If you have not yet picked up Charles Dickens' masterpiece, I beg that you do, or at least that you will before you die. Death would be a sad thing for those who have not yet committed themselves to this glorious book's pages.

"think now and then that there is a man who would give his life, to keep a life you love beside you."

Have a wonderful evening
