Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts
Did not finish book. Stopped at 49%.
This novel felt unusually slow paced compared to Nora Roberts’ previous works. While I have previously enjoyed her storytelling in the past, this particular book lacked the charm that I have come to expect. The characters and plot felt underdeveloped, with little chemistry between the main protagonists. The antagonist'’ motivations were discussed but it felt unclear and unconvincing from a reader’s perspective. Overall, I struggled to connect with the characters or feel invested in their relationship, which made the story less impactful than her earlier titles. Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. The plot felt aimless and lacked the tension or depth typically expected from a romantic suspense novel. While events unfold serial killers, crimes across Maryland the narrative never builds momentum by the half way point I got to before calling quits. It feels as though Roberts’ passion for blending romance and suspense has waned, and her recent work in this genre has lacked the energy and engagement of her earlier novels. At this point, a shift toward writing a pure thriller might serve her storytelling better.
