Gunning for Ramirez: Silent as a Grave by Nicolas Petrimaux

2.0

What if the world’s deadliest assassin was hiding out as a vacuum repairman? That’s the premise of this, which ultimately is way more style than substance. The art is simply outstanding, and a true five-star pleasure to behold. The writing, not so much. When we’re not being hit over the head with lazy French jabs on American culture (crack on American culture all you like, but at least put your back into it), we’re wading through a story that can’t decide how serious it’s supposed to be. It’s overstuffed with weird world-building collateral that looks good and took a lot of time, but really doesn’t deliver much value. And the treatment of women in this is ultimately pretty cringeworthy. All in all, this is one misses the target.
