This novel was fantastic! It is not often you get to hear the native perspective or let alone hear their voices, but this book provides it. I know I personally always supported the creation of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments but this only reinvigorated that passion. Hopefully as promised Biden will restore Bears Ears to its originally, carefully designed area that the inter-tibal coalition proposed, as this is not just about conserving land but the a culture, religion, history, and our future. Sacred is sacred so it shouldn't have to be explained further but we should all be protecting this land and all Native American sacred sites. This sacred sites and the fights to protect them will not only benefit Native Americans but our planet and future generations.
This novel and the interview, poems and stories provided make it clear that the fight for Native American sites is a fight for our planet. It is all connected and we are all connected to it so we should all fight for it. I found myself dog earring every other page as there were referred to novels, films and books that I want to watch to learn more about Native Americans' fight for their sacred lands and their ways of life, culture and religion. I would recommend this book for anyone with question about Bears Ears and those wanting to learn more. I know I personally will be referring back to this book many times and will be watching vigilantly for ways to support and fight for Bears Ears and all other Native American sacred sites!
