Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout
4.0

I love Jennifer's books, so I rounded this up to 4 stars, but really I would give it a 3.5/5.

Let's start with the positives. Like all of JLA's books, it was very well written and so easy to read. The characters are well-developed and you really end up rooting for them. There was romance, action, mystery, and bad-ass protagonists. I enjoyed reading from both Hunter's and Serena's POV, and their story was very cute.

Now onto the negatives. Unfortunately, this book followed the typical bad boy falls for good girl story line. Usually, I'm a sucker for enemies-to-romance books, and if there's brooding, dark-haired, snarky, bad boy in the picture, even better. However, this just felt exactly like reading the Lux series. This is, of course, a spin-off of the Lux series, however I was expecting there to be some original characters and personalities. I absolutely loved Lux, but with this book, you could literally swap out Hunter and Serena for Daemon and Kat. The dialogue, personality and dynamic between the two was pretty much exactly the same - it was entertaining, but just repetitive. It was basically just an adult version of Lux. There's nothing wrong with that of course, and Jennifer has basically said that was the point of the book, so if that's what you're after then you'll love this book.

Even though technically you could read this book without having read the Lux series first, I would highly recommend reading Lux first. Not only because it's an amazing series, but also because it explains so much more about what's going on, and why the bad guys are so nefarious. Some familiar faces also do make an appearance, which was great and made the book more enjoyable.

Overall, this was fun read, just a little predictable.
