My quick thoughts:

It was delightfully eerie or should I say perfectly splendid? I was somewhat annoyed by repetitions (those damn cup of stars) but I understood the symbolism there and the decline of Nell's mental stability was a factor. I loved the stories about the house and its history really made it feel alive like its own character.

The other characters were less intriguing but the decline of Nell really helped make them even more mysterious as the story went. I would read this again and understand why it is so beloved.
