Aspiring journalist, Adina heads to Pleasant Hollow, a small town that will be getting a new condo development, to write a piece that she believes will be her big break. She expects the town to be just like the ones she sees in Hallmark movies, for the residents to be against the new development, and to fall for the local small town hero. Instead, when she arrives she finds the town isn't what she expected--not everyone's friendly and welcoming like they are in the movies, they don't hold town events like in Gilmore Girls, no one's against the new development, and the small town guy she has her meet cute with is actually not from the small town at all but is a city slicker like her.
This was a cute, light rom-com full of Gilmore Girls vibes. I liked, it was ok, but it wasn't my favorite. I enjoyed the romance, it was cute and I think Finn and Adina were good for each other. I also enjoyed the plot, a girl going to a small town with Hallmark expectations only to find it's nothing like the movies at all. This was a fun twist on the usual small town romance,
I found the main character was a bit cringey at times and I got some second hand embarrassment from some of the things she did. For example, she walked into a hair salon and started dancing to the music playing, personally I got a lot of second hand embarrassment from that one. I also found that the author was trying too hard at times to make the MC sound "young" and would use some slang terms that just felt really cringey. The author used things like AF, yaaas, and other things like that. It felt like she was trying to hard to make Adina sound twenty-four and it just didn't come across well.
