I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

dark emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring sad fast-paced

5.0

Five stars. This is a perfect book. Even if I had no idea who this actress was, it would be a perfect book. Jennette removes herself from the character of Sam in a way I hope she’s proud of. I’m sure many other readers like myself went in with the excitement of reading Sam Bucket’s harrowing tale of backstage abuse, but that’s not what this book is at all. I met Jennette within the first few pages and was amazed at what I saw. This book has made me rethink the ethics of not just child actors, but all of Hollywood. Her tell-all is deep, hard-hitting, and at times devastating. But I was mostly blown away by her ability to write. She is an expert author. Her word choice, pace, cadence, and dark wit is so punchy and left me really impressed. I really hope she continues to write, if writing is what she enjoys doing. This will stay with me for a very long time.
