I’m a sucker for post-apocalyptic hurricane fiction especially when it’s set in Louisiana. This story had a novel idea. It felt fresh, and I wanted to love it. It had a few problems. I know Louisiana well, but I got confused with the description of the setting at times. It needed more world building and background. The story felt disjointed at times. I think the hardest part was because the author was trying to make a metaphor about what was happening in comparison to Noon’s coming of age/coming out story. It was okay. There were parts I like about it, but it distracted from the plot. I feel like it was two stories trying to be one.
