All Grown Up
by Vi Keeland
It's not really 4 stars but it deserves to be rounded up, if only because of all the feels it gave me. It also felt a lot different than other books that I read by this author, which is great, as usually her characters seem kind of interchangeable, only put in a different setting. Here, we get a genuine, heart-warming and sexy romance.
Both Val and Ford are going through a journey here and I loved every second of it, even the inevitable split/misunderstanding part. Most of the time, it's something totally avoidable and unnecessary, to raise the stakes before the couple gets together in the end. In this story though, I found it believable. What Ford learns of his family is something that could definitely cause a crisis and change one's outlook at life. So when that leads to him pulling away from Val, it's actually understandable.
The book also touches upon struggles and reality of older woman-younger man relationship, showing that, while age (in most cases) is indeed just a number, there are some aspects that might be difficult (although not impossible) to overcome. Like "you used to babysit my son as a teenager" or "you get ID'ed when we got out to get a drink".
Anyway, while this book wasn't perfectly-written or anything, I got so engrossed in it that I would've read it in one go, if it weren't for the fact I needed to get at least an hour or two of that pesky thing called sleep before going to work. So the rounded-up 4 stars are for the enticing read, the feels and that giddy feeling you get when you read something cute and pure.
