Up in the Old Hotel by Joseph Mitchell

4.0

The content of this book is gold. It's amazing to read about the diversity that used to be so common, before long distance travel and television became commonplace, and turned us into homogenized paste, like a human roux--rouxmanity. The style leaves something to be desired. It's a bit wooden, like an old newsreel, but I guess I can't complain if a reporter from the 40s reads like a reporter from the 40s.
