Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

I knew little about this book before reading it. I discovered that it was considered a YA book after I got about half way through. YA, in and of itself, isn't indicative of a "simple" story, but in this case it was. It was a cyberpunk version of Lightning Thief; stupid jokes while people are dying, juvenile banter, half-baked adventures that turn out neatly wrapped up in the end--you get the picture. Also, the 80's nostalgia tour was entertaining at first, but 500 pages in it, it got a little old--kind of like living through the 80's ;) At any rate, it was easy to read, did a good job with suspense, and moved at a reasonable rate. Character development was actually pretty decent too. I didn't hate it. I didn't love it. It's a book I'd recommend to my students, but not many adults.
