Tomboy: A Graphic Memoir by Liz Prince
5.0

Excellent graphic novel that nails two experiences: why gender norms really screw girls as they grow up, and how even the best techniques to deflect the teasing don't totally cover it; and what growing up in the 90s middle America is like.

I've just recommended it to two female friends but really, this book should be read by parents who are teaching their own kids how to react to those who don't follow gender norms. 99% of the reaction Liz Prince gets in her not-so-feminine youth is clearly stuff kids regurgitate from their parents' mouths, and is easy to reflect back on similar cases in one's own youth. Great book, wonderfully honest and a delight to see how the author grows in confidence without changing who they are.
