I really wanted to love this book. The writing is beautiful and I loved the Middle-Eastern inspired lore and setting.
However, the story sucked. It's marketed as an enemies to lovers romance but the love interests don't even meet until like halfway through. And then when they do meet there's zero chemistry and then at some point they're just kissing or pining but it makes no sense as to why they feel that way. Their interactions or thoughts just don't support it, so it felt like a romance that was shoved in there to appeal to romantasy readers. It may have been a stronger story if there was no romance at all actually, rather than a lackluster romance.
The whole thing was a slog and I couldn't muster enough interest in the story to read the next book.
