Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
5.0

TJR does it once again! No matter what you read in the blurb/synopsis of the book, it is never entirely predictable of what is going to happen or the psyche of the characters. All you know is that there is a party and that there will be a fire. That's what makes the journey of reading this book so engaging because TJR literally fills in the blanks. Not a single page is wasted. Reading through the Riva siblings all navigating their lives and identity, and the party being the pinnacle of their journeys as both individuals and a family, is what keeps you hooked. Reid really captures how each sibling's individual world contributes to the family dynamic. The fact that all this essentially occurs within 24 hours is crazy, when you think about it as a reader because there is so much detail given to you that the world of Malibu feels bigger and longer. I guess may have been Reid's intention which would be successful if it is. It simply adds to the tension that is building up as the party getting closer. The ending was perfect, very circular in every way which I am a sucker for.

It’s not often that I repeatedly immerse myself into the works of a sole author but with this being the third book of Reid that I have loved and has been such a subtle but intense page-turner I can’t help but continue to dive deeper. What I continue to love about Reid is that her writing is so effortless and she is so simple about her descriptive language choices when it comes to creating a scene or atmosphere.

As someone who does not gravitate to romance as a genre, I love that Reid simply looks at human connection and emotion. In this book I particularly love the focus on familial relationships and love. Although the present-past chapter structure has been used in all three books I've read so far, it never gets old and it is used so effectively.

Next up is Carrie Soto is Back!!
