The Sandman Vol. 1: Preludes & Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman

4.0

A review of the first volume of The Sandman seems so unnecessary at this point, but yet again I'm reminded that ONLY Neil Gaiman writes this way! I've put off reading this series for this long because it's the last major work of his I have left to read - after The Sandman I only have a couple of short story collections left, which makes makes me sad. But of course, I'm not disappointed because Preludes & Nocturnes delivered the magic, darkness, philosophy, and twisted storytelling I was hoping for, as well as so much more. The artwork is a bit hit or miss for my personal taste - some of it is perfect, some of it is fine, some of it I don't like it all. I will say, it's definitely growing on me and I'm getting used to this style, but I'm also really looking forward to seeing how it changes as different artists contribute to the series. Still, what a was to open the story!
