Gideon Falls, Vol. 2: Original Sins by Jeff Lemire

5.0

“Gideon Falls” is what happens when some of the best creators in comics, all of them at the top of their game, come together and create something genre-shatteringly brilliant.

While I really liked Volume 1, the pacing and end-of-arc payoff wasn’t entirely satisfying to me. Volume 2, however, is practically flawless. It’s horror and fear and guilt and cosmic otherworldliness all cocktailed together into one entirely unique and thrilling. Jeff Lemire’s story comes together in a BIG way with this volume, and Sorrentino’s art—with breathtaking colors from Dave Stewart and flawless lettering by Steve Wands—is arguably the most profoundly original work being done in the medium right now.

I still don’t know what kind of comic “Gideon Falls” is, but I do know that it’s fucking brilliant and I cannot imagine where it’s going next. This is an easy 5 stars for me.
