The first book could have been altered slightly and left with an open ending, and it would’ve been more satisfying than whatever happened in this sequel. This book is so insistent about its moral point that it glosses over all the elements that make its world fantastical. The closure it provides is so boring.

3.5/5 rounded up because I still had fun reading it.
