I read this because Olivia's new book (Ship Wrecked, I think) interested me when I found it in the store (apparently put on the shelves early since I saw it in late October!) but I discovered it was the third in the series. I really liked this though. Lots of emotional development (personal, family, relationship-wise) and made me really nostalgic for my teenage years, sitting in my room writing HP fanfiction with my best friend. Of course, it also subverts the status quo of beauty standards by making April both smart, capable, confident, and plus-sized, which was really nice to read. Marcus' character arc was also really good too. I would have liked more info on her background as a geologist, but I'm also just a nerd and want to read about science, honestly. A major plus for this book too is that April is 36 and Marcus is 40, and the characters read more mature as well.

The book doesn't quite throw out the romance novel template but refreshes it in a way that felt authentic. There were a few prosy lines that the former lit major in me really liked, especially the descriptions of dust motes in cars and April's hair. Also decently spicy!
