A perfect combination of mystery, intrigue, cool environmental lessons, and complex characters. The Scottish setting is exquisitely described and the characters so real that I could picture them.

I liked this even more than Migrations, which is also excellent. This one felt more realistic and more human. The major themes around trust and caregiving, and how closed/open to be with others were handled very well, and I particularly liked how the traits of wolves were included as part of this exploration.
